This is a small brass microscope from 1904 which has 30x optical zoom. Although it was presumably manufactured by a French company, because it says 'Grossissement' and '1 Lentille....... 30 fois', the instructions are writen in English. The box is in good condition except for a small piece of wood used to hold the microscope has broken off, but is still in the box so could be glued back. Also included are english instructions on how to use it, a short letter from a grandfather to his grandsons which reads "For the dear boys, with love from Grandpa" and dates the microscope to December 23rd 1904, metal tweezers and a prepared slide of a flea also come with it. The microscope itself is in good condition except for some small scratches and works reasonably well after some fiddling and can easily be dismantled, without tools, into four pieces for cleaning. If you're after a microscope for practical use, you'd be better off with a new one, but for historic and sentimental value and an item to display or collect, I personally feel this is very nice.
